About us

Hello, my name is Andrew Gregson and whilst I am English by nationality, my wife Nopporn is of Thai origin. We run the Mung Mee Thai Restaurant and food store next door. As a family we all love oriental food and Thai food in particular.

We love Lancaster and its people. Although Lancaster is steeped in tradition, many people are becoming involved in creating an even more colourful future for this city. Therefore, my family and Mung Mee Thai Restaurant are delighted to be part of these exciting developments.

From as far back as the 14th century until 1939, Thailand was known as Siam. In the western world it is probably best known as the setting for the film and musical “The King And I”. Thailand shares the same peninsula as Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Thailand’s cuisine is now recognised as providing one of the healthiest diets possible.

In Lancaster you can now find and enjoy Thai cuisine of the finest standard, reasonably priced and served in authentic surroundings by our friendly attentive staff here at Mung Mee Thai Restaurant. It is difficult to describe just what makes Thai dishes so special. For our part, we use Lemongrass and Kaffir lime leaves. Used in soups, this citrus fragrance is beyond description. Our fish sauce, rich in vitamins and minerals, flavours many a dish along with garlic, which is also used in French and Italian dishes. Chilli Peppers are sometimes used as a snack but more often used to flavour Thai dishes. We also use Coconut Milk, Galanga (mild ginger), Palm Sugar, Jasmine Rice and a whole list of other, mouth-watering ingredients to ensure that the perfect meal is prepared for you, our valued guest and soon to become friend. Traditionally, we avoid large cuts of meat in cooking; therefore, our meats and fish are cut delicately.

I am not giving away trade secrets because we do add other flavours to our dishes. Our secret lies in the sensitive harmonising of these herbs and fragrances coupled with the expert food preparation, marinating and cooking by our Thai chef and his staff.

A traditional Thai greeting is “gin khao yung” meaning have you eaten yet? We look forward to greeting you soon at The Mung Mee Thai Restaurant.
